Welcome to the 30th queerfilm festival Bremen!

Audience Favourite

You voted! This year’s audience favourite of the queerfilm festival 2023 is the documentary WHO I AM NOT, closely followed by KOKOMO CITY in 2nd place and LE PARADIS in 3rd place!

Thank you to all our visitors! It’s great that you were there.

See you!

Welcome to queerfilm festival!

24th to 29th of October 2023 in Bremen

30th of October to 1st of November 2023 in Bremerhaven

From 2nd of November online

Greetings to you in the vastness of current queer film in our as always rich film program.
Welcome also to the 1st queerfilm festival Bremerhaven! We are very happy about the small, new polyp in our jellyfish population, which will move into the Deutsche Auswandererhaus in Bremerhaven directly after the festival in Bremen. Join the stream of shining jellyfish and glide with us through our lovingly curated anniversary program: dance with us at the anniversary gala to set the mood for the festival month, swim through the historical waves of the festival at our expert talk, and collectively riddle along with fun at the queerfilm quiz night. Be sure to join us, too, as we present the QueerScope Debut Film Award to the great film WHO I AM NOT. Not only do we want to celebrate, we also want to thank all those who have accompanied and supported the queerfilm festival over the last three decades: the founders, companions, filmmakers, our loyal audience, the beloved community and all those who share our vision of a queer film festival cosmos.

Many, many thanks and lots of fun at the 30th queerfilm festival Bremen and Bremerhaven!

forward – backward – in between,
Perspectives of Queer Film Festivals

On the occasion of our 30th anniversary, we would like to look back, reflect and exchange ideas. For this we invite founding member and film scholar Chris Rüffert and other exciting guests. We will look back at the founding period of the queerfilm festival(s), look back at the different stages and dare a look into the future. We would like to juxtapose the different levels – queer history, queer film history and festival history. Admission is free of charge.

| 7.30 p.m.

Anniversary Gala

This festive gala is a queer spectacle and a cozy get-together at the same time. Under the glittering disco ball, the colorful dance floor lights up the Neue Saal with wild karaoke specials and hot DJs. For relaxed chatting, chilling and making out, the Alte Saal invites you. The bar is ready, the decoration enchants and you shimmer beautifully anyway! The evening is by queers and for queers and friends! We wish that everyone is aware of this and treat each other with respect. An awareness team will be available for you and support you if you need it. Admission 3 to 5 Euro.

13.10. | 7.00 p.m.

queerfilm Quiz Night,
Die Zentrale, Industriestraße 20

Come to Kačka’s quiz night – this time in the anniversary edition! Don’t worry, it’s less about knowledge and more about the fun of riddling and puzzling together. In several rounds with different categories we will have a nice evening. There will be some prizes – not only for the most points. Grab your Friends and come up with a team name! Free admission on donation basis.
The premises are accessible, a toilet for people using wheelchairs is available.

26.10. | 7.00 p.m.

QueerScope Debut Film Award for WHO I AM NOT.

We are pleased to present this year’s debut film award of our national umbrella organization QueerScope. The award aims to support filmmakers at the beginning of their activities and to encourage them in their young work. QueerScope is a union of 23 independent LGBTQIA+ film festivals in Germany and Switzerland and sees itself as a solidarity system, awareness-raising and symbiosis-building. The award ceremony will start with a reception and after the screening of WHO I AM NOT there will be an exclusive film talk with exciting guests. You can look forward to exciting drinks and specials.

Accessibility

It’s important to us to make the festival as accessible as possible for everyone.

The CITY 46 is partially accessible, the Deutsches Auswandererhaus is fully accessible. Admission is free for assistants/support persons, but seats for them must be reserved as well.

The CITY 46 is partially accessible for wheelchair users and people with limited mobility. There is a fully accessible wheelchair entrance and lift. To use it, please inform the staff. There is a wheelchair-accessible restroom that is fully equipped but there is a 4.5 cm threshold to enter the room. The auditoriums have ground level access and their smallest passage widths are 88 cm. Wheelchair access for auditorium 2 is through a side entrance via another room with the help of the staff. This way is not marked.

The closest disabled parking lot is located one street over, in front of Bahnhofstraße 4.

For users of cochlear implants and hearing aids, there is an audio induction loop available in auditorium 1. Please contact the box office if you want to use it. Our movies will be shown in the original language version with German or English subtitles. We try to provide sign language interpretation into German Sign Language for as many panel discussions as possible. For this, please check the notes of the respective film descriptions.

More details on the physical accessibility of the venues are available and can be found under:
