Sunday, 18:00

People’s Republic of China, Spain | 2019 | Directed by: X. Zi | 107’
Mandarin/English with German subtitles

Li Jiumei does not have a high opinion of them – neither of her husband whom she caught red-handed with his male lover many years ago, nor of her daughter who lives in the United States and urges her to get a divorce. When her daughter comes to China on a visit, conflicts flare up instantly which even get worse when Li Jumei gets involved with a shady sectarian group.

This debut feature film masterfully interweaves the narrative strands of a family saga that unfolds in several time periods and, in the end, reveals the tragic story of a life determined by unfulfilled desires and dreams.
